DH and I have both been trying to eat more healthy (we love snacks a bit too much, especially the unhealthy ones) as well as incorporating regular exercise but unfortunately so far we have had more 'cheat' days than we should. Recently I came across SkinnymeTea (SMT) while browsing Instagram and was really intrigued by their 'Teatox' concept. It is basically detoxing but with tea. After doing some online research, I found out that the idea of 'Teatox' has been around for quite some time now and there are mixed opinions about it amongst users/non users. SMT promotes a healthy image which you will be able to achieve by using the tea in conjunction with a healthy eating plan and regular exercise. After weighing the pros and cons, I decided to give Teatox a go and ordered a 28 Day Teatox pack as well as a pack of Acai tea. I am not doing this to lose weight but mainly to see if this tea really help reduce bloating and make me feel more energized. I already am a tea lover (but I do not drink coffee at all) so it will be interesting to see the end results!
The 28 Day Teatox pack comes with 28 days supply of loose-leaf tea and 14 colon-cleanse tea bags which you are meant to have only every 2nd night. I have read many reviews that the colon-cleanse tea (just as the name suggests) has a laxative effect so I was very conscious of this and for the first night, I only let it steep for about 2 minutes (the pack suggests 3-5minutes). The loose-leaf tea has quite a mild taste, but it may just be because I am used to drinking green tea already. I really like the Acai tea which has a hint of sourness to it. The most difficult one to drink is definitely the colon cleanse which I do not mind but would not choose to drink if it wasn't for the Teatox.
I started my 28-day teatox on May 13th so I am on my 9th day today. So far, the tea has definitely reduced bloating and I do feel a bit more dehydrated than usual so I have been drinking a lot more water (fruit infused detox water is perfect!) as well. As for the colon cleanse tea, I found that if I leave the tea bag in for 1-2 minutes I don't really experience any difference at all but when I let it steep for over 3 minutes, I do feel some cramps when I wake up in the morning and generally followed by a trip to the bathroom but nothing frequent like many others have experienced. To stay hydrated, I have also been drinking fruits infused detox water. There are sooo many combinations to choose from on the internet.
So far I have tried:
- Strawberry+Lemon+Mint ( my favourite!)
- Kiwi+Passionfruit+Blueberry+Raspberry
- Orange+Grapefruit+Cucumber+Mint
