Bommie Restaurant review | Hamilton Island

Out of the four restaurants we dined at during our time on Hamilton Island, Bommie Restaurant was my favourite. Bommie Deck was the perfect spot to watch sunset with spectacular views of the Whitsundays, followed by a menu of well thought-out and beautifully presented contemporary Australian dishes. The tasting menu offered was absolutely delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed every single dish. DH and I are not big fans of oysters (in fact we rarely ever eat them because we do not like the texture and taste in general) but we both loved the oyster mousse appetiser. 

For those who cannot decide between dining at Bommie or qualia's Long Pavillion (which I believe only cater for guests staying at qualia or by invitations only), having had the degustation menu at both restaurants, I preferred Bommie because it suited my palate better and I felt all components of each dish tied in really well together. I will make a separate post for qualia's Long Pavillion when I get round to it =).

If you are planning a trip to Hamilton Island during peak season or only have a few days there, I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of your arrival to avoid having to wait or miss out on this experience. 

HAMILTON ISLAND - DAY ONE

DH and I travelled to Hamilton Island for the first time back in January. We chose to stay at qualia resort (more on the resort later) on Hamilton Island and we did day trips to Whitehaven Beach and Reefworld. 

Day one recap: 
x Arrived in Hamilton Island around noon (plenty of time for us to freshen up and explore the island before sundown) 
x Checked in at qualia 
x Explored Hamilton Island (mode of transport: buggy)
x Afternoon snacks and cocktails at One Tree Hill lookout (for amazing Whitsunday views and a perfect spot to watch sunset)
x Dinner at Bommie restaurant (a separate review will follow) 

Colours of Burano

While in Venice, DH and I also took a day trip out to two islands: Murano (well-known for its glass making) and Burano (lace making). Our hotel offered complimentary water taxi service to Murano and a tour of one of the most famous Murano glass factory so we just caught the ferry from Murano to Burano. I will make a separate post for Murano but out of the two island I much preferred Burano, its colourful houses were so pretty and unique.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I know we are more than half way into January now but this is still my first post in 2016 so I guess it is not too late =). DH and I are currently in Hamilton Island and we are heading home in a couple of hours. Our flight got delayed so I have some spare time to finally finish some posts that I drafted a long time ago. This one continues from my last post about our trip to Venice in 2014.

On our last day in Venice, DH and I woke up early for a quiet morning stroll before the city is again filled with crowds of tourists. It had rained the night before so early morning was quite cold and wet but that did not bother me at all. St Mark's Square was so serene and remarkably empty that I was able to capture some shots of this famous landmark without it being covered by tourists (such as myself =)) 

When we returned to our hotel to finish packing before heading out again for a gondola ride, little did we know that we were lucky to have enjoyed such a nice walk in the morning because by lunch time, most of Venice streets were flooded with water rising up to the knees. Fortunately for us, we have been exploring Venice for 2 days by then and walked around enough to be able to navigate our way to the main canal without having to enter flooded paths.
